Service Technician

Job Summary: The Dredging and Dewatering Service Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment used in dredging and dewatering operations. This role involves performing hands-on tasks to remove sediment, sludge, and water from bodies of water, industrial sites, or construction projects. The technician ensures efficient and safe operation of dredging and dewatering systems while adhering to environmental regulations and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation: Operate and monitor dredging equipment (e.g., dredges, pumps, hydro cyclones) and dewatering systems (e.g., centrifuges, filter presses, geo textile tubes) to remove sediment, sludge, or water from project sites.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on dredging and dewatering equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Site Preparation and Setup: Assist insetting up dredging and dewatering systems, including pipelines, hoses, and containment systems, according to project specifications.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor system performance, collect samples, and record data such as flow rates, sediment volumes, and water quality. Report findings to supervisors and clients as required.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory standards.
- Environmental Stewardship: Follow environmental guidelines to minimize ecological impact, including proper handling and disposal of dredged materials and wastewater.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to coordinate tasks and ensure project deadlines are met.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve operational issues with equipment or processes, escalating complex problems to supervisors or engineers as needed.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment logs, and project progress reports.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in heavy equipment operation, mechanical systems, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in dredging, dewatering, construction, or heavy equipment operation. Experience with hydraulic systems, pumps, or filtration systems is a plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Ability to operate and maintain heavy machineryand tools safely.
- Familiarity with environmental regulations and safety standards
- Certifications: Valid driver’s license required; CDL, OSHA 10/30, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
Other Requirements:
- Willingness to travel to project sites and work flexible hours, including weekends or overtime, as needed.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in outdoor or industrial environments, including exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in dredging or dewatering operations.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, pumps, or related equipment.
- Familiarity with SCADA or automated control systems for centrifuge operations.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed outdoors at construction sites, waterways, or industrial facilities.
- Exposure to water, mud, dust, and noise is common.
- May require working in confined spaces or near heavy machinery.
- Over time, weekend, or shift work may be required based on project needs.
