Decanting Centrifuge Operator

Job Summary: The Dredging and Dewatering Decanting Centrifuge Operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining decanting centrifuge systems used in dredging and dewatering operations. This role ensures efficient separation of solids and liquids from dredged materials, maintaining equipment performance, and adhering to safety and environmental regulations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and experienced in operating heavy machinery in industrial or environmental settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate Centrifuge Equipment: Safely operate decanting centrifuges to separate solids from liquids in dredgeds lurry, ensuring optimal performance and output quality.
  • Monitor Processes: Continuously monitor centrifuge operations, including feed rates, flow levels, and system pressures, to maintain efficiency and prevent malfunctions.
  • Perform Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections, cleaning, and minor maintenance on centrifuge systems and related equipment to ensure operational reliability.
  • Troubleshoot Issues: Identify and resolve operational issues with the centrifuge, suchas blockages or mechanical faults, and report major issues to maintenance teams.
  • Ensure Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearingappropriate PPE, following lockout/tagout procedures, and complying with site-specific safety regulations.
  • Environmental Compliance: Ensure properhandling and disposal of dewatered solids and liquids in accordance with environmental regulations and permits.
  • Data Recording: Log operational data, ncluding throughput, solids content, and equipment performance metrics, tosupport project reporting and analysis.
  • Collaborate with Team: Work closely with dredging crew, supervisors, and maintenance teams to coordinate operation sand meet project timelines.
  • Equipment Setup and Shutdown: Assist inthe setup, calibration, and shutdown of centrifuge systems at project sites, ensuring proper installation and dismantling.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in heavy equipment operation or mechanical systems preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience operating decanting centrifuges or similar equipment in dredging, wastewater treatment, or industrial processing environments.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and operational data. o  Familiarity with environmental regulations and safetystandards.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Certifications: Valid driver’s license; forklift or heavy equipment operator certification is a plus.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in outdoor or industrial environments, including exposure to noise, dust, and varying weather.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in dredging or dewatering operations.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems, pumps, or related equipment.
  • Familiarity with SCADA or automated control systems for centrifuge operations.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is primarily performed outdoors at construction sites, waterways, or industrial facilities.
  • Exposure to water, mud, dust, and noise is common.
  • May require working in confined spaces or near heavy machinery.
  • Over time, weekend, or shift work may be required based on project needs.
